Constructed from polyester coated with silicon, these slide sheets offer minimal friction during movement, facilitating easy patient transfers. With heat-sealed edges, these slide sheets are ideal for environments where cross-contamination between patients is a concern, such as emergency rooms, operating theatres, and settings with infectious patients. They are simple to use, either singly (folded in half) or with one sheet placed on top of another, depending on the length of the transfer and the size of the sheet. For safety, it is recommended that at least two carers are present during patient transfers and that the patient is never left unattended on a slide sheet.
To transfer a patient up the bed, place the open end of the folded sheet towards the bed head. For sideways transfers, place the open end of the folded sheet towards the patient and position it under the patient at least hip to shoulder, then pull in the direction of the open end. Due to their slippery nature, slide sheets should be used slowly to ensure the patient's head does not hit the top of the bed. Proper training in manual handling techniques is recommended to ensure safe and effective use of slide sheets for patient repositioning.
